Why does Globalization matter?
The Age of Globalization is here, and it is touching everyone of us. Although countries have always exchanged goods, information , knowledge, and culture, the pace of global connectedness has increased in recent years. Advances in technology, science, transportation, communication, and industry have indeed made the world, to use a trite phrase, "a global village."
How did we get to where we are today? After World War II (1939-1945), many countries adopted free-market economies, which allowed them to produce and trade more goods. In addition, governments reduced economic barriers to promote trade and investment. Since 1950, the volume of world trad has increase 20-fold. New technology in manufacturing and communication has also drive the expansion of globalization by giving consumers, investors, and businesses new tools for pursuing economic opportunities and more instantaneous knowledge of trends and developments in far off places.
Yet, globalization is a messy business. the rapid pace of change has been more than unsettling for many people as they try to deal with the economic, political, and cultural consequences of globalization. Some countries , such as South Korea, Japan, and China, have benefited greatly from globalization, while others, such as those in sub-Saharan Africa, have not. Also, within some countries such as India, some people have prospered tremendously while others are dismayed by the rapid decline of traditional ways of life.
The costs and benefits associated with globalization are balancing act. That's why it's important for everyone everywhere to understand how globalization works.

"I find that because of modern technological evolution and our global economy, and as a result of the great increase in population, our world has greatly changed: it has become much smaller. However, our perceptions have not evolved at the same pace; we continue to cling to old national demarcations and the old feelings of 'us' and 'them'.”
